Europcar has reinforced its position as a major supporter of cycling in Australia, celebrating the sport with riders and cycling enthusiasts at this year’s Santos Tour Down Under.
Held from Tuesday 21 January through to Sunday 26 January 2014, the Santos Tour Down Under was the first UCI World Tour event on the cycling calendar and the biggest cycling race in the Southern Hemisphere.
For the second year running, Europcar was a major sponsor of the event and the naming rights sponsor of the Most Competitive Rider Jersey, which was won by Australian rider, William Clarke. And, for the first time ever, Europcar welcomed international cycling team, Team Europcar, as competitors in the Tour Down Under.
Despite the early departure of Tour de France stage winner and yellow-jersey holder, Thomas Voeckler – he broke his collar bone during a training ride; the team fought hard to finish in 16th place and are now looking forward to returning even stronger in 2015.
Off the course, Europcar felt like the real winners thanks to the enthusiastic riders and spectators who celebrated with Europcar representatives at each of the stages and in the Tour Village in Adelaide City.
Europcar Australia and New Zealand Sales and Marketing Manager, Angela Spencer, said the Europcar Fan Wall was a particular highlight of the Tour Village, with no shortage of willing participants to get their photos taken and show their support for Europcar.
“The support for Team Europcar and Europcar in general was overwhelming,” Ms Spencer said.
“Our Fan Wall filled up very quickly and was a real talking point of the Village, with riders, fans, volunteers and even other sponsors dropping past to have their photo taken and displayed on the wall – it was also a great opportunity to talk to people about their travels and experiences with Europcar.”
Europcar also ran a competition to win a Colnago Bike, which is still accepting entries until Wednesday 12 February 2014 at europcar.com.au.
According to Ms Spencer, Europcar’s alignment with cycling fits perfectly with Europcar’s global tagline – Moving Your Way – which is about providing customers with travel solutions that meet their unique needs.
“By supporting cycling, Europcar hopes to help Australia’s growing community of riders move their way on our roads,” Ms Spencer said.
